You Give Me Love

recent-thoughts-840x300

Not much in life is guaranteed, but the Bible is clear that tough times will come our way.  Job loss.  A family member passes away.  Our kids struggle in life.  Our car breaks down.  We don’t get the promotion. Our other car breaks down.  Divorce.  Sometimes our lives can feel like the proverbial country song.

There is not one of us who haven’t, at some level, gone through difficult seasons.  No doubt some are more difficult than others, but nonetheless we all go through these seasons.

I have found two things to be true:

1)  Humility and faithfulness will get you through any season.  I don’t want to say that so nonchalantly, as if it’s easy.  It’s not easy. There may be some scars.  But you will make it through and you will be OK!

2)  In these seasons I have found God’s love to be an amazing thing.  Just when you think you cannot take it anymore.  When you are ready to give up.  Just when you think you don’t have the strength to make it through.  God gives you a sense of His love, a reminder that there is no where we can go from His presence. (Ps 139:7-8)

Verse 17 & 18 of Ephesians 3 sums it up well: “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

It’s that love that you may be left with.  You may feel void of all other remnants of God.  No answer to the prayer.  No release of the pain.  The gray skies may not be turning blue and there is no recognition of a silver lining.  A sense of God’s love may be the only thing you have; but it comes rushing in…and it’s enough!

A friend called me one Monday morning to say that the Holy Spirit had touched her heart the previous Sunday in our worship time together.  She mentioned she didn’t even feel like getting out of bed, but she did and came to church.  A sense of God’s presence was so overwhelming to her that she needed a moment of privacy with the Lord and found a quiet place in the church.

After hearing the story I thanked the Lord for giving her a sense of His love and began to write this song:

You Give Me Love

When hope becomes dim
And tragedy sets in
A desert takes form in my heart

(But) In weakness I’m strong
The grace to keep on
Your hope and Your love restored

Pre-Chorus
You give me love
You give me love

Chorus 1
I speak Your name and it calms the fears within me
I know the power of Your love is restoring me
Jesus You’re faithful and true through eternity
He give me love

Verse 2
How wide and how deep
As vast as the seas
Is the love You have for me

Pre-Chorus
You give me love
You give me love

Chorus 1
I speak Your name and it calms the fears within me
I know the power of Your love is restoring me
Jesus You’re faithful and true through eternity
You give me love

Chorus 2
I speak Your name and Your joy is renewed again
Mountains are moved and the oceans are calmed within
Jesus You’re King over all, You’re a faithful friend
You give me love

Pre-Chorus
You give me love
You give me love
You give me love
You give me love

Chorus 1
I speak Your name and it calms the fears within me
I know the power of Your love is restoring me
Jesus You’re faithful and true through eternity
You give me love

Chorus 2
I speak Your name and Your joy is renewed again
Mountains are moved and the oceans are calmed within
Jesus You’re King over all, You’re a faithful friend
You give me love
